Big Dreams is an outreach providing services to foster students who don't have easy access to resources to promote academic and personal goals.
My name is Valentina Mendicina, I am a senior in High School and a founder of Big Dream Charity. “What would you fight for” when this question was posed to a large group of peers the obvious answers to fight for human rights, such as protecting the homeless, children's rights to education, racial equality, and combating disease. What wasn’t so obvious was the gap between this social problem and action to find a solution.
In 2018, within the U.S. there were over 1.8 million reported homeless children in public schools. How can this be, in a developed country such as ours? Big Dreams is my nonprofit founded to be the vehicle of change. It is my mission to be an advocate for children who desperately need people to fight for the systemic change that will prevent their ending up in dire circumstances, and also to help those who are already lost in the system.
Big Dreams founded and operated by young people like me, run by in high school and college students, will fight for the forgotten children. I am passionate about bringing awareness to this cause by partnering with like-minded students and organizations to create change and raise awareness through Big Dreams. As a Christian, I was brought up to serve others before myself; it is not enough simply to talk about necessary change, but to be the change.
